Yellow Tavern
With it’s relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, solid vintage decor and great food and drink, the Yellow Tavern is one of New Harmony’s most beloved institutions by locals and visitors alike. The original was an Owenist haunt, built in 1815 on the aptly named Tavern Street, but after being destroyed by fire in 1908, it was rebuilt on its current location on Church Street.
A true New Harmony landmark, the Yellow Tavern is a full-service restaurant and bar featuring cold beer and German type fare such as Bratwurst, Germain Bologna, Reubens and Brain Sandwiches; along with other local favorites such as burgers, pizza and barbecue pork. The full line of bar-type appetizers and sides include such favorites as onion rings and breaded mushrooms. Nancy’s Bread Pudding is a specialty that people keep coming back to taste again.
Of course the Yellow Tavern is a tavern, so no minors are allowed. It features an old-style classic bar with beautiful woodwork and an impressive selection of drinks. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, the bar is stocked with peanuts and patrons throw the shells on the floor, giving it a distinctive old-time atmosphere.
The owners also have houses for rent with short or long term leases.
