The Grey Estate Cypress Slough is essentially the other side of the Twin Swamp Cypress Slough, and is accessible via a parking area directly across the road from Big Cypress Slough. It has several trails that follow the slough or take the hiker through interesting flat woods. Continue reading

The Wabash Lowlands is comprised of hardwood forests and several ponds. The area is an important wetland for migrating birds, fish, reptiles, and amphibians. Wading birds such as cranes and herons inhabit the deep ponds and surrounding areas. Native pecan trees and naturally occurring bamboo and cane provide the cover for the wet floodplain forest. Harmonie State Park campground has 200 sites with electricity and a dump station. It includes a nature center, several playgrounds, a stage, and access to several hiking and biking trails. An Olympic size swimming pool with a water slide is nearby. There is also a youth tent area that hosts groups such as school excursions and rustic cabins available for rent. Continue reading
