Hoosier Salon
The Hoosier Salon is a Fine Art Gallery that was started in 1925 by a group of women who wanted to recognize Indiana artists. New Harmony is one of three branches, the other two are located in Indianapolis and Carmel. In addition to the galleries, they hold an annual exhibition in Indianapolis.
“We currently have eight exhibits during the year,” says Gallery manager Linda Volz. “They are usually three person exhibits, but we also do member exhibits and a holiday show with multiple artists. And we sponsor the annual First Brush of Spring Plein Air Paint-Out, in April, which brings artists from all over to paint New Harmony. This year I plan to make the small gallery space to the east a consignment gallery.
The Hoosier Salon also holds quite a few children’s events, including two workshops in June and complementary events to town-wide events such as Kunstfest or Christmas in New Harmony.
