Print out this TWO PAGE 4th of July WEEKEND BROCHURE to see what’s open and when, when and where the festivities will take place, and get a map to everything.
Join us as we celebrate and commemorate the iconic American holiday — Independence Day. Though the festivities will be curtailed just a bit due to the pandemic, we’ll bring out the red, white & blue and our patriotism will be on full display.
The Working Men’s Institute will kick off the day with a Facebook Live presentation of their Independence Day Celebration at 10:00 a.m., featuring a keynote address by Tamara Allison “Public Education: Past, Present & Future.”
The annual Decorated Golf Cart Parade, sponsored by the Kiwanis, will begin with lineup at the old New Harmony school at 11:00 and will wind through town. Judges will choose the most patriotic or most beautiful decorated carts and three awards will be given out to the winners.
The Kiwanis will also be honoring the Volunteer of the Year.
While the traditional group picnic won’t be put on this year, it will be a great day to pack a picnic basket (or gather food in town) to enjoy in one of the many scenic spots around town. Capers Emporium will be selling picnic food and renting picnic baskets. Picnic tables abound, from Murphy Park to down by the river.
There will be a Saturday night fireworks display hosted by Wilson Auctions, Inc. and supported by local donors. It will be held on the Auction Center lots. Let Freedom Ring!
*Social distancing according to CDC guidelines and the state of Indiana will be followed at this event.*
